Bolton Gas Block

The Bolton Block is designed to be a direct replacement for a 45 degree gas block; it will work for replacing a 90 degree block but will require relocation of the gas port.

The Bolton Gas Block is designed and manufactured by Lenny Bolton, Lenny is a very accomplished shooter and a master design and fabrication kind of guy.

When he saw the need for a combination gas block/front sight built to proper AK specs he delivered.

The idea of lightening the front end of the AK is a desirable feature but the previously available offering on the market was based on an AR15 sight not the AK and as most know I‘m not fond of trying to make the AK into an AR. So with this part you get a front sight that is the proper height for the AK. The front sight is adjustable for windage with just a flathead screwdriver. The sight post is taller than need be so it will need to be filed down for your elevation adjustment. The sight is also very easy to see and when used with the Fuller rear sight it makes for an excellent sight picture.

Lightening the front end of the gun not only makes the gun handle faster and point easier but it is a good way to offset the weight of a forward mounted optic. To further enhance this modification your barrel can be shortened and we can permanently attach your flash-hider to maintain the 16.5” length making the front end even lighter.

Issues regarding the Bolton Gas Block

We have been using the Bolton Gas Block from Venom Tactical for about 5 years now. It has been a big seller for us as it is a truly great improvement for the AK series rifles. The Bolton Block is a combination gas block/front sight designed to allow the shorting and lightening of the AK front end. The Bolton block along with cutting down the barrel and pinning your muzzle device will allow the gun to have an overall length that is about 2” less than the overall length of the standard AK without making it a short barreled rifle. It also reduces the overall weight of the AK by about 10%.

As successful as the Bolton Block has been there are still those that are concerned that because the block is attached by set screws (as opposed to pinning) it is subject to being moved by the gas pressure created by the AK. To those who are concerned about this issue I ask you to look at the following example of just how well they will hold.

We received one of our customers RD builds that had the Bolton Block installed with the barrel cut down to 12.5 inches and running a suppressor. This set up creates tremendous gas pressure on the AK system. During the use of this gun the gas pressure was so strong it actually blew the gas port (drilled at a 45 degree angle) forward to a point where the gas port was opened up and moved in front of the gas block and yet the block did not move at all and the gun still ran.

We believe that this example proves that when properly installed the Bolton Block is just as strong as the original pinned blocks that are normally used.
